Many teenagers and young adults use the site myspace.com daily to chat with their friends. They can do many things that help keep them connected in their different social circles such as see what old friends now look like, message and comment friends, and share pictures. Also myspace helps you discover new music that you may like and lets you know when your favorite bands are playing in your area. It is a popular persons dream and it may be a shy persons nightmare. In high school many people are seemed as cool or less cool depending on how many friends they have on myspace. This contributes to problems of self-esteem as an adolescent. But people move on and get over it. However, in a desperate attempt to become popular they might befriend pedophiles and who knows what may happen then. Although, many teens do not see that as a big threat.
They also don’t really see privacy as a threat. Many teens believe that if they put their myspace profiles on private no one else except for Tom and their friends can see it. However, this is completely untrue. Many hackers can and will hack into “private” myspaces without the user knowing. Other privacy issues surrounding myspace have to deal with pictures and personal information put up. When you put upload your photo onto myspace you give up the rights to your pictures and then they own it. Any information that you submit on myspace is sent into archives and they are there forever. This might endanger a future job.
Privacy and self esteem issues aside myspace is not that “place for friends” most people would imagine due to their advertising. It is a ploy for advertising corporations to force feed teens junk. It is another way for greedy and money hungry corporate sponsors to get their claws into the youth of America. They disguise their true motives on making the youth feel like they can express themselves via the Internet. When in reality I feel like they are just trying to help our generation stay the most consumerized generation yet. They just want you to keep consuming, they don’t really care about your self-expression. It’s not really the most convient way to talk to your friends, but rather a way to make you a media consumed monster.

MySpace Friendly, HA! MySpace Private, HA! In a community where people are coming together to find lost family members, old friends or just to test out technology it is clearly becoming the 'in' thing. People of all ages have a MySpace account. Privacy has become just a word. People still add people to be their friends regardless of if they know them or not; it is not going to stop. Yes there are pedophiles out there but the only one who seems to care are the parents. MySpace, MySpace, MySpace what are we going to do with you?
Why is privacy such a big issue. Most people know that their information will possibly be seen by hundreds if not thousands or even million people. They even have a counter that shows you how many times your profile is viewed. So if you're woried about your information being used against it don't use myspace as your alternate email adress or don't post up any information that will put u in a dangerous situation. Now to my next point.
Many people know ads are on myspace. And the majority of us, users, are aware of the many different advertising methods used to get us to buy what they're selling; one of which is bombarding us with frequent Pop-up ads and message spams. I feel that these ways are as pointless as it is annoying and uneffective. I have a plan that is more effective than spam and cheaper than placing an ad on the website. This idea is just becoming a "friend" on myspace. (Creating a profile) And im so not going to elborate on my tactics because im am an evil genius.. hahahahaha The end
myspace seems to be a hot topic everywhere i turn, and to me its amazing how many people have given themselves over to it. on a positive note it does provide a social networking platform, and i think it differs from facebook in that theres a lot more room for creativity providing more room to show one's personality. but of course its hard for me to comment on it without just being negative because i despise it. sorry
...and i just had to get this in because im not buying into the whole popular persons dream and shy persons nightmare. think its the other way around honestly because the truth is all its doing to the so called popular person is blinding their vision.
I use Myspace a lot and it is true that you can stay in contact with old friends, comment on friend's page, and share pictures. There are younger children that lie about their age so they can have a Myspace account. I also agree that privacy issues isn't a big threat how some people say. Our generation is the most computerized generation yet. Older people are forced to learn our methods of the internet world. I try not to upload any pictures or give out personal information because its not necessary for online communities where people can see my information.
